It was hot this afternoon when I went to the pond to release the queens from their gilded cages, actually it was just screen but it should be gilded because without them, there would be no bees. There was great excitement around the hives, bees zipping in and out and when I pried up the staple that held the little metal strip, I couldn't see the cage for the bees.
They were not too happy when I gently bonked them off. I did remember to hold the queen cage down inside the hive as I dug the cork out that held her inside, then laid the entire cage on the floor of the hive so she could come out when she pleased.
When I left the bands had begun and the kegs were being tapped, let the party begin!!
